Lovingly Dedicated to My Wife
Let Me Be Your Mirror
Let me be your mirror
in a world where judgment runs amok
I shall reflect a certain beauty,
she stands in front of me.
The very things I loved about you
from the very start of ‘us’
I recognise your simple gifts
that won my heart, that’s made this last.
A true projection, a praise extension
loving you for who you are
The glare of your glow
Is all that I’ll show
Let me be your mirror.
Cast aside the shadows,
cutting words and splintering criticism
No fault shall I seek to find
what worth is it for us to mind?
I am but gloved like a diamond valuer
with a handsome price tag in my hand.
Seeing you for your priceless worth
As a piece of art, like a work of class.
For what we share is fragile and precious.
“Handle with care”, “This side up!”
Careful inside, a piece of glass
Put in the furnace, kilned strong and certain,
Tried and tested, created to last.
Love,
Your Mirror

The self-composed poem above is dedicated to my wife. It drew inspiration from a recent interview I'd conducted with Bill & Pam Farrel, reputed marriage counsellors, international authors and famed best-selling authors of "Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti". While relating a certain event in their marriage, Bill coined the phrase 'let me be your mirror' while conversing with Pam. That phrase stood out for me and inspired me to write a poem. It would have been a song were I able to put a tune to the words. I am open to the idea of working with a songwriter. Please leave me a note in my comment box if you'd like to take up this musical challenge. Thanks!
